OBJECTIVIST SEMANTICS OR COGNITIVE SEMANTICS? IMPLICATIONS OF THE SEMANTIC MODEL FOR THE ANALYSIS OF CONDITIONALS

Abstract

This paper contrasts the analysis of conditional constructions in Functionalism and Cognitive Linguistics, and argues that the semantic model adopted– Objectivist Semantics and Cognitive Semantics, respectively – is at the heart of the differences observed in the main insights provided by each approach.
