This article explores the meaning of intercultural communication, its problems and strategies for promoting effective intercultural interaction: cognitive, emotional-evaluative, behavioral. The authors draw attention to the need to develop intercultural competence among foreign students studying the Russian language based on studying the culture and traditions of not only the country of the language being studied, but also the region in which they are studying.
