A Mathematics teacher educator's specialized knowledge when teaching the Euclid's Division Algorithm Theorem: a focus on examples and explanations
Abstract
Under some perspectives, all professional involved and responsible for teacher education can be considered a teacher educator. In this sense, also mathematicians who teach in teacher education are considered mathematics teacher educators and his/her knowledge directly influence the foci and quality of teacher education. Aiming to understand which elements compose and characterize a teacher educator specialized knowledge when discussing the Euclidean Division Algorithm Theorem. In this paper we analyze the practice of a mathematician acting as mathematics teacher educator and discuss her revealed specialized knowledge considering the scope of the Mathematics Teachers’ Specialized Knowledge. Results allow to highlight the specialized nature of the mathematics teacher educator knowledge bringing to front some of those mathematical dimensions which are crucial in practice.
