At the dawn of a new industrial revolution, against the backdrop of globalization’s receding tide, the theUS-China competition for technological supremacy breeds a new strain of mercantilism: the economic techno nationalism. It is the direct connection between a country’s national security, economic prosperity and social stability on the one hand, and its innovation achievements and capabilities on the other hand, that distinguish and define this new trend and that justify the state’s activism, as the nation’s protector against the opportunistic or hostile actions of other actors. This paper captures and dissects the techno-nationalistic acts and facts bred by the US-China high-tech war both in the two rival economies and in others, with proved technological authority, in support of the prediction that this type of economic behaviour will becomeincreasingly dominant in the 21st century’s international economic relations.
