The professional aspects have been deserved only a few studies and as a consequence the students and the cartographic engineers does not have enough objective information about the work market. This work is another attempt to unveil the work market for the Brazilian cartographic community. The recent survey, performed in 2001 and computed in 2002 from a sample of 109 professionals, confirms that the public sector still is the bigger employer, but also informs that the private sector is coming close. The survey bring numbers to compute the monthly wages (R$1,441.48); the average age is around 36.1 years. It shows that the sales and consulting area grows continuously; and many other information such as the concentration of the activities in the Southeast. Finally, the survey reveals thas the fundamental mapping, environment and planning are the employers' most common fields and that coordination, cartographic production, and planning are the most common daily routines of the cartographic engineers.
