Research focuses on developing a hardware and software solution for effectively calculating the number of visitors in a shopping mall. The relevance of the problem is emphasized within the context of existing research on person identification through image processing and the availability of specialized equipment for automatic people counting. Areas where utilizing calculations of the number of individuals and other presence-related parameters is vital are identified. The study gets into modern hardware and software solutions for people counting within indoor spaces, highlighting their advantages and drawbacks. A comparative analysis reveals that software-based approaches, rooted in video stream analysis, offer a broader spectrum of applications compared to hardware devices like turnstiles or sensors. Additionally, libraries and frameworks suitable for constructing video and image processing algorithms are identified. Furthermore, a calculation algorithm is proposed for determining the number of visitors in individual stores within the shopping mall, based on video stream analysis, with subsequent integration into an existing video surveillance system. This algorithm can address existing challenges, such as analyzing customer behavior to enhance and optimize business operations. In future research, the intention is to implement the developed system to address the issue of providing appropriate ventilation in the shopping center's premises based on the number of people present. The outcomes of resolving this problem encompass energy conservation and the establishment of comfortable and safe conditions for all individuals within these spaces.
