The article deals with the problems and prospects of the system of additional education of children applicable to students with intellectual disabilities. Its socio-pedagogical potential is noted in terms of the socialization of this category of children and the development of their necessary life competencies. An analysis of the results of a survey of parents (legal representatives) and teachers on the organization of additional education for students with intellectual disabilities is presented. The study was conducted on the basis of special correctional school No. 21 (Krasnodar) and included an assessment of: 1) the availability of free time for students with intellectual disabilities; 2) sufficiency of additional education institutions; 3) preferred areas of additional education for them; 4) ways of obtaining information about the possibility of obtaining additional education; 5) material and technical base of institutions of additional education; 6) staffing for the implementation of additional education programs. Based on the data obtained, the priority directions for the development of the system of additional education for children with intellectual disabilities are formulated.
