Cooperative member participation plays an important role in the sustainability or preservation of the life of a cooperative, the purpose of this paper is to explain or reveal the importance of dual functions of member participation both participation as an owner (owner) and participation as a user (user) for the sustainability of the life of a cooperative. This is the viewpoint identified based on years of experience working with Cooperative organisations, 1990 - to date. This paper finds that the challenges, obstacles in the management of cooperative organisations are almost the same around the world both from the type of cooperative and geographically, namely the issue of member participation where it is also caused by two factors [namely contributive participation (owner) and incentive participation (user) not running in balance. This study describes the empirical facts and factors that contribute to the participation of cooperative members in the Indonesian Employee Cooperative Centre of Wonosobo Regency.
