Estimation and Analysis of NavIC Receiver Tracking Jitter due to Amplitude and Phase Scintillations
Abstract
An independent, stand-alone satellite navigation system called Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) was created by an Indian space research organization (ISRO) for civilian position, navigation and time applications using mobile devices. Also, it is going to be introduced all smartphones in India to features of NavIC. However, because of ionospheric scintillation effect the NavIC system performance suffers greatly. The random changes in the signal’s amplitude and phase cause ionospheric scintillation. The scintillation cause jitter in receiver hardware while tracking the signal. In this paper by using carrier-to-noise ratio(C/No), Spectral parameters ‘p’(slope of phase PSD) and ‘T’(spectral strength of the PSD at 1HZ) we calculate receiver tracking jitter (σ2øJ) due to L5 band(1176.45 MHz) and S-band (2492.028 MHz) signal scintillations. The result is that L5 band was more affected by amplitude scintillation index S4 than that of S-band.
