Sangam literature is the literary document that guides us to the life of the people of the Sangam period. Most of the songs are internal in attitude. Although both the hero (Thalaivan) and the heroine (Thalaivi) are referred to as protagonists in the internal literature, the majority of the songs are women-centered. In it, she is able to understand the best qualities of the hero and the boundless love she has for the lover in the life before marriage (Kalavu Manam). Furthermore, the introspections highlight rare traits such as the domestic duties, hospitality, and motherhood of the heroine who engages in chastity life (Karppu Manam) after marriage and living with her husband. One can find out more about the life of the heroine (Thalaivi) in the Agam songs.
