Since the 1980’s, under the effect of the economic crisis, the social sciences, notably anthropology, have not ceased to be interested in factories and their workers. They have, amongst other things, shown the importance of DIY (do-it-yourself) in the working world, delibering diverse and complementary papers without exhausting the subject. This is what Véronique Moulinié shows, supported by the story of four handymen who are a little different from the others: far from being mechanical geniuses, they seem to limit their efforts to the routines and rules of their factory. But their reinventions are not those you could expected: they concern less “things” than the handymen themselves.
