Home´s transgression as a detonator in Calderón's tragedies

Abstract

In some tragedies of Calderón de la Barca a privileged place is given to the space of the house and to the untimely intrusion of an alternate agent who breaks its balance and endangers the honor of those who live there; especially the women. They cannot not defend themselves and remain at the mercy of their protectors as well as of the violators of their abodes. Throughout the following study I analyze the transgression of the house using the discourse in two works of Calderón de la Barca: The Surgeon of his Honor (El médico de su honra) and The Mayor of Zalamea (El alcalde de Zalamea).
