September 15 of 2016, Carlo Ginzburg was holding a conference at the international symposium organized by the “Groupe Genevois de Philosophie”: « Ethno-philology :two case studies ». Starting from two cases studies, (Garcilaso de la Vega and John David Rhys) Ginzburg was offering an important and personal contribution to ethno-philology. If philology is the academic effort to fix the letter of uncertain texts, it becomes with Ginzburg the application of straight philological methods to political situations. The aim of his ethno-philology is to hear subaltern voices. The lesson for the theory of translation is very important: translation is not a pacific operation. It implies strength relationships.
