The modernization is presented as a project of modernity made from a developmentalist ideology of the progressand rationality. As an expansion of the capitalist way through places, it is established from two main models:a political and ideological, and other technical and infrastructural bases. The hegemonic aspects in this senseconstantly renew the relations among production and instruments as well as speeches (which science is notfree) justify and even “naturalize “ the modernization as a necessary requisite for “social progress”. The strongdiffusion of the empty concept of a political debate comes from the authoritarian way in which was imposedin countries like Brazil and the way the speech is reproduced from a particular class. This article proposes todiscuss these issues through a review of authors who study the concept and from a critique of the way sometalk about the subject through a reductionist conception of space and dualistic interpretations. It also raisessome questions about the studies that analyze the modernization with a focus on modernity and its paradigmatictrends but without going into the political, historical and spatial phenomenon.
