Classical thought and Christian intellectuality: Quintilian and the Society of Jesus
Abstract
This work deals with the influence of the Roman rhetorician Marcus Fabius Quintilian during the first two centuries of history of the Society of Jesus. In this period, a large number of Jesuits were familiar with Quintilian’s work, and used his teachings in their pedagogic and intellectual activities, contributing to the diffusion of the classical legacy.
