Sialolipoma in the oropharyngeal region of minor salivary gland origin: A case report
Abstract
Sialolipoma was first described by Nagao et al., in 2001. They classified this tumor as a benign salivary grand tumor, and the frequency of occurrence in adults is 0.3% of all salivary gland tumors [1]. Roughly, more than 50 cases of sialolipoma have been reported in the English literature between 2001 and 2019 since the introduction of its classification. Approximately half of these have been reported in the parotid gland, and the rest in the submandibular and minor salivary glands [2–4]. To the best of our knowledge, our case is extremely unique in morphology and ease to be seen by the naked eye. The tumor was shaped as a mushroom and gradually increased in size since childhood. This case can provide valuable information to the clinicians regarding the diagnosis of this rare oropharyngeal tumor.
