This study features a literature review on Problem Based Learning (PBL) conducted in the Journal of Chemical Education. The data were collected directly on the website of that periodical and then analyzed. The analysis categories were divided into three aspects: bibliographic, theoretical, methodological. The results showed that the trend of the analyzed researches is towards the proposition and application of didactic intervention, particularly in chemical laboratory spaces. The results suggest the need for further studies on PBL with the participation of students from elementary and high school; the continuous training of teachers and the construction of Chemistry curricula in disciplines and / or courses based on PBL.
