Twin towns in Bosnia and Herzegovina after disintegration of Yugoslavia: Brod's development problems

Abstract

In this paper we are analysing development problems of twin towns using Brod as an example and regarding context of spatial and functional ties with Slavonski Brod. Relations between these towns have been examined both through the aspect of historical geography development as well as through the aspect of contemporary geographical reality that arose from dissolution of Yugoslavia. Special consideration have been given to demographical, economical and spatial-functional issues which originated as a result of warfare and still have strong impact on progress perspectives of both towns. Actual ties and relations between Brod and Slavonski Brod and plausibility for cross-border cooperation have also been observed in the context of overcoming numerous development problems.
