Hibiscus sabdariffa extract/poly (vinyl alcohol) modified magnetite as a magnetically recyclable nanocatalyst for the selective oxidation of amines
Abstract
The development of poly (vinyl alcohol)/Hibiscus sabdariffa extract modified silicate-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4@SiO2-Hs/PVA) presents an economical and environmental-friendly heterogeneous catalytic system for amines oxidation with hydrogen peroxide. The prepared nanocatalyst was determined using FT-IR, SEM, TEM, and XRD analyses and was used as a magnetic catalyst in the amine oxidation reaction. A large group of N-oxides has been obtained in good – high yields under optimal reaction conditions. The prepared nanocatalyst was recovered through an external magnetic field and was reused successfully for five cycles without any obvious loss in catalytic performance. The major beneficial characteristics of the present approach are a simple preparation pathway, less usage of hazardous reagents, broad substrate scope, and magnetically recoverable nanocatalyst.
