Electric motorcycles offer a clean and efficient solution for urban transportation. With their sales projected to grow significantly in the coming decade, enhancing their design will profoundly impact society. The aim of this research is to have a tool to predict the remaining life of a motorcycle battery, which uses a hybrid energy storage system. For that, the paper proposes to use a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) with a synthetic inductor algorithm which was designed for extending battery’s lifecycle. Then, a real-time lifecycle prediction tool is included in that energy storage system. The predictor is based only on voltage and current measurements in real load profiles. Experimental data extracted from an electric motorcycle have been used to compare a battery-only storage system and the proposed HESS. The comparison shows that the degradation of the battery is reduced 52% using the hybrid energy storage system and the prediction method is successfully validated.
