Clinical Efficacy of Liposomal Paclitaxel in Maintenance Treatment of Patients with Advanced Squamous Cell Lung Carcinoma
Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of liposome paclitaxel in maintenance therapy of advanced squamous cell lung carcinoma patients. Methods After 4-6 cycles of first-line treatment, 57 patients with advanced squamous cell lung carcinoma were randomized into liposomal paclitaxel monotherapy maintenance treatment group(experimental group, n=29) and follow-up observation group(control group, n=28). Efficacy and side effects were observed in experimental group. PFS and OS were compared between two groups. Results CR, PR, SD, PD rates of experimental group were 0, 13.8%, 44.8%, 41.4%, and disease control rate(DCR) was 58.6%. The major toxicities were myelosuppression and gastrointestinal reactions. PFS and median survival time(MST) of two groups were 5.7 vs. 2.4 months and 7.3 vs. 4.9 months(both P < 0.05). The patient's quality of life(QOL) was better in experimental group, compared with control group. Conclusion As a maintenance therapy after the first-line treatment of advanced squamous cell lung carcinoma, liposomal paclitaxel could significantly improve PFS, OS and QOL of patients, and the adverse reactions are tolerable.
