Man has always been addicted to something and enslaved himself to his existence. As a result of existential influence, literature prioritized the existence of the individual. It is called 'existentialism'. Existentialism is deeply expressed in the later modern literature of the West. Many dramas, novels, short stories, short poems, and other genres are influenced by existentialism. Every man has his own existence and it is the first and fundamental. A poet evaluates everything else by the state of existence. He blames himself for his problems. Man chooses his own life. This is the basic principle of this existential philosophy. Existentialism was widely employed as a theory only after the Second World War. It focuses primarily on the existence of the individual and his problems. The miseries of human life like death, emptiness, guilt, panic, suffering, loss and nostalgia are the central themes of existentialism. Tamil people also have concentrated on existentialism. Many poems were written on the influence of existentialism. Tamil existentialism delineates the idea that the individual is responsible for the meaning of one's own life and to live that life in its own emotional, true, and living despite many obstacles, distractions, suffering, longing, absurdity, isolation, boredom etc. by doing an analysis on the influence of existentialism on Tamil poetry, one can understand the nuances in the society. Hence, this article is to decipher the influence of existentialism in Tamil poems.
