The correlation between blood leukocyte count and the level of consciousness in head injured patients
Abstract
This study was performed to define the correlation between the level of consciousness based on Glasgow coma scale ( GCS), Glasgow outcome scale( GOS) and leukocyte count. Two hundred and thirty three patients ( female: 48, male: 185) ranged between 1-75 years old were studied. The results showed that there was a negative correlation between increasing leukocyte count and GCS ( n=233.r= .0.3, p <0.001) and a positive correlation between increasing leukocyte count and GOS ( n=233, r= .0.2, p<0.05). These findings reveal that leukocyte count has prognostic value in patients with head injury.
