Urinary Incontinence in the Elderly
Abstract
Abstract The University of Texas Southwestern Aging and Geriatrics Education's Urinary Incontinence (UI) resource is a comprehensive core curriculum on UI in the elderly which can be incorporated into existing undergraduate medical education courses at both the preclinical and clinical levels. After completion of the program, medical students will have been trained in the basic evaluation and treatment of UI in the elderly. The program and learning platforms are created in sequential modules so that components can be utilized as a clinical relevance link to basic science courses (e.g., anatomy, physiology, pharmacology) and for different levels of learners (e.g., third- and fourth-year students), and is required during a 2-week geriatrics rotation for all internal medicine and general psychiatry interns. It is also utilized in the family medicine clerkship. The resource utilizes a narrated, self-paced, interactive medium using high quality visual renditions. Each section includes a mini-quiz and a section on clinical cases for review is also provided.
