Abstract

when the British came to the sub content, they left no stone unearthed to commit all kinds of oppression and tyranny. Although they targeted all citizens but Muslims were their main target as they have taken power from their hand, therefore they considered them as their enemy number one. To torture the local community they introduced such ammunition in which fat of pige and cows was used. This irritated Muslim as well as Hindu soldiers and they refused to use it ultimately they were dismissed, this became the immediate cause of the war of freedom of 1857. Similarly, they imposed sanctions on some religious signs and customs like ban on beard and turban which add to the fuel and thus war of freedom of 1857 strarted. Although local people were defeated in this war but this resulted in far reaching consequences and the whole sub Continent got freedom till 1947. Beside these tyrannies and oppressions the portuguese also committed many crimes on the name of Christianity. They were doing all these on the name of their religion. In this article some of the glimpses of their oppression have been brought in to focus.
