[Purpose/significance] Interdisciplinary research is conducive to solving social problems, generating frontiers of scientific research, producing major scientific breakthroughs and promoting scientific innovation, is also the need of disciplinary development. However, the current talent evaluation model of classified catalogue of subject journals in Chinese universities has prevented achievements of interdisciplinary research from being comprehensively evaluated, and then influences the evaluation of scholars with relevant achievements. [Method/process] Taking Professor X in Mechanical Engineering School of Southwest Jiaotong University as an example, from the two perspectives of the graded catalog in school journals and the disciplinary direction of papers, this paper analyzed the distribution of disciplinary and institute of the scholar papers, and revealed the contradiction between the graded catalog of traditional journals and the evaluation of interdisciplinary research achievements.[Result/conclusion]This paper proposes suggestions of adopting better evaluation methods of interdisciplinary journals, setting up multi-dimensional and flexible evaluation methods, conducting collaborative multidisciplinary evaluations and establishing interdisciplinary evaluation panels.
