Hearing loss is one of the most common somatic-functional impairments (Horáková, 2012). Because hearing perception is key to the development of the spoken language, children with hearing impairments are in the care of clinicians - Speech-Language Pathologists or Special Educators - Speech Therapists/Deaf Educators. This article aims to offer insight into the specifics of the job of a Speech Therapist/Deaf Educator with children with severe hearing impairments. From this group, we then separate the category of children operated on with cochlear implants. This is dealt with in a specific chapter.
