The article explores contemporary radio reports. The aim of the analysis is to reveal the linguistic markers of the category of “event”, as related to “the description of the event” genre forming feature, and its components: the event, the time and place, the participants and the observer. The analysis is made referring to the reports of Radio Mayak. The results are listed below. In contemporary sport radio reports, the category of event representation has certain peculiarities, which are connected with all its components. The event is chosen according to the demand of the audience and becomes the subject of the report. It takes the leading place in it, determining the need for local and temporal indicators. The participants’ representation is connected with the demonstration of the reporter’s competence and personal preferences. The “place” and “participants” components an important role is played by the opposition “home/alien place” and “own/alien”. Local and temporal markers reveal the connection between the report and live streaming and help to maintain the “effect of presence”. The author’s position changes according to the type of reporting, whether it is an announcement or a text formulated during the event. In the former, the author is a witness (the narration is accompanied by the “effect of presence”), and in the latter — an observer (“stating narration”, which gives the report some of the “news report” genre features).
