Images of Mexico in the catalan press: ‘La Vanguardia’ and ‘El Periódico de Catalunya’ (2013-2016)

Abstract

The article presents a study on the construction of the image of Mexico in the Catalan press from the perspective of the agenda setting. For this, a content analysis of the news in La Vanguardia & El Periódico de Catalunya was carried out during the years 2013 to 2016 with the objective of identifying overture, sources, agenda and journalistic valuation. The results show that Mexico has a coverage of five weekly news, predominantly the use of institutional sources and witnesses. It also highlights an agenda focused on political, cultural and economic issues. The treatment is markedly positive, above all, in favor of cultural and financial issues.
