Abstract

Magazines have been doing the work of bringing the happenings in the society to the people. In the Tamil Magazine World one of the oldest magazines is “Matar Marumanam”. It is known that “Matar Marumanam” Magazine has exposed the injustices happening in Tamil society, especially the injustices happening to widows who have lost their husbands from the past to the present times it hoisted its articles. The magazine is radical and fought for the liberation of the suppressed women in patriarchal domination and hegemony. This article is based on a feminist critique of oppression employed on exposed women in “Mathar Marumanam” magazine. Through this article, we can know that women who have lost their husbands have been denied remarriage, young girls who have not reached puberty are married to older men and they reach the stage of widowhood in their childhood. Through this article, we can learn that if young widowed women fall in love with another man or if they want to remarry the man they loved, the patriarchal society not only prohibits it but also kills or to make them to commit suicide.
