The name of the great scientist, teacher, historian, and religious figure Rizaetdin Fakhretdin is known not only among Tatars, but also in the whole Muslim world. His field of knowledge is multifaceted and unique, along with religious work, he conducted active educational and publishing activities. This paper discusses some materials about R. Fakhretdin from the newspaper "Milli Bayrak", which had been published in Japan for ten years (1935–1945). The policy of the Bolsheviks aimed at combating religion for many years imposed a taboo on the study of the heritage of many Tatar educators and religious figures. There was no place even for the obituary of the death of R. Fakhretdin in the periodical press. Foreign editions had more freedom in assessment of the processes occurring in Russia. The study of the materials of the newspaper "Milli Bayrak" about R. Fakhretdin gives an opportunity to objectively assess his contribution to the development of the Tatar people’s education, to trace his life path, and see the attitude of the Islamic world to his activities, thus emphasizing his personality in the fate of the Tatar nation.
