This article aims to highlight the importance that the behavior revealed by the intimate and personal writing of a woman, in this case D. Joana de Vasconcellos e Menezes, recently married for the second time with D. Diogo de Lima, takes in an attempt to restore the family honor also contributing to the maintenance of sociability logical held between his family and the Royal House, in a period of political history and especially troubled Portuguese military
