Vitamin D3 affects the regulation of the calcium and phosphorus metabolism, mediating their absorption through a mechanism of active transport, stimulates the formation and the deposition of calcium phospate (by activating the phosphatase process) and lowers the urinary elimination of calcium and phosphorus by rising their reabsorption in the proximal renal tubules. It is essential for the healthy and harmonious development of the osseous system.
