The present study proposes to analyze some potentialities in the translation of the pāli canon, language in which are the writings of Theravāda buddhism. In order to do this, we use the concept of pure language (reine Sprache) as formulated by Benjamin. After this, we proceed to a reading of the concept under the light of buddhist doctrine. Thus, we defend a Revelation without Creator, which brings us to the idea of pure language as a karmic parameter. In our discussion, we point to translating as a practice. In our conclusion, we translate some verses from the Dhammapada and we discuss them, and we respond to some possible objections.
