Entre Représentations Sociales et Intentions de Pratiques : l'Implication

Abstract

We are interested in the influence of social representations (RS; Moscovici, 1976) on social practices. We hypothesize that the "cultural" involvement of an individual (Rouquette, 1997) towards the represented object mediatizes, at least partially, this influence. We so try to explain by which process a SR incites an individual to personally implement a social practice. 147 French students were questioned about social representation, involvement and practices concerning the object "globalization". Results confirmed our hypothesis of mediation. It also illustrates the relevance of the distinction between "cultural" and "circumstantial" involvements (Rouquette, 1997), in order to formalize circumstantial involvement as a factor generating SR, and cultural involvement as a factor placed under their influence.
