Introduction: in order to achieve an efficient healthcare management model, it is necessary to carry out an adequate information management, since this has an impact on the quality of medical care. Objective: to apply the Big-6 model to for the problem-solving of information management at El Cerro Pediatric Teaching Hospital. Methods: a qualitative study was conducted, where the Big-6 model was applied in the Medical Records Department at El Cerro Pediatric Teaching Hospital in the period between September 2018 and May 2019. Methods of the theoretical level and empirical level were applied, such as the interview to obtain a detailed description of the problem addressed, and the possible solutions. Results: the organizational and personnel training conditions for the computerization of the Medical Records Department have not been created, identifying the equipment and training needs, the sources were classified to maintain better organization and control of them. The theoretical solution was proposed in response to the objective and the necessary conditions in the premises to computerize the sections of the Medical Records Department were proposed. Conclusions: the application of Big-6 model made possible to identify the existing problems, plan and carry out an information search process. It made possible to collect and organize the facts of the situations required in terms of information management to reach the necessary level of knowledge to solve the problems identified. The optimal theoretical solutions were proposed to solve the problems that hinder information management in the center.
