Abstract
Background. The relevance of the chosen topic is determined by the need to study the unique experience of the cultural and educational activities of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) in the difficult conditions of the sociocultural crisis that engulfed Russia at the turn of the 20th –21st centuries. The purpose of the work is to analyze the results of the implementation of the project to form a network of cultural and educational centers for spiritual and moral education and leisure activities for adults, children and youth in the Orthodox parishes of the Samara diocese in 1995–2010. The question of the formation of a system of innovative forms of spiritual and moral education at the diocesan level has particular interest. It is necessary to consider the significance and results of activities in such areas as: understanding national history in line with Orthodox values through annual scientific and practical conferences and forums; development of a system of additional professional education and advanced training courses for teachers teaching the basics of Orthodox culture. Materials and methods. The body of sources for studying the cultural and educational projects of the Russian Orthodox Church was formed by the records management documentation of the current archive of the Samara diocesan administration, and, above all, the reports of the ruling bishop of the Samara diocese to the Moscow Patriarchate. The research methodology is based on the principles of historicism, objectivity, and a systematic approach to considering the role of the ROC in the life of modern Russian society. Results. It is proved that in this way a single spiritual environment of the microsociety was created, accessible to children and adults, regardless of age and place of residence, based on deep historical traditions and the mission of the Russian Orthodox Church to update the cultural and historical bonds of Russian civilization as a means of overcoming the consequences of the systemic crisis.
