Abstract Introduction This resource targets medical educators who lead educational sessions or case-based discussions. The purpose of the workshop is to teach medical educators how to design effective and efficient case-based educational sessions utilizing a technique known as McChief Rounds. It engages multiple levels of learners while incorporating adult learning principles. This educational technique focuses on a single case in an interactive, team-based format. Methods This resource includes a PowerPoint presentation and guiding resources that can be used by medical educators to design and disseminate the use of McChief Rounds. The provided workshop can be used to teach medical educators how to present a patient case using the McChief Rounds technique. The workshop is designed for 90 minutes (flexible). The workshop first provides a dynamic overview of adult learning principles and the characteristics of effective versus ineffective educational sessions. Next, the audience participates in a real time simulation of McChief Rounds. The workshop then reviews a specific road map on designing McChief Rounds in a step-wise fashion. The application of this workshop culminates with the attendees designing an educational session of their own and sharing it with the large group. At the conclusion, the tutorial calls for a commitment to action by which attendees commit to applying a learned technique to future educational sessions. Results This workshop has been successfully deployed at the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) Annual Meeting in a workshop forum. The tutorial was also successfully presented at the APPD Pediatric Chief Resident Forum, with 96% of 50 chief residents favorably rating the workshop. The target audience included faculty educators and pediatric chief residents. McChief Rounds itself has been very successful at our institution and has been adopted by over 30 pediatric residency programs across the country. It is the preferred modality of morning reports in our institution. Discussion McChief Rounds increases the interaction and motivation of all participants within the educational session by fostering team-based learning, inclusivity, and friendly competition within a safe learning environment.
