This article discusses the Horatian topos of the amorous invitation and the threatening prophecy expressed in Portuguese language poems, in Glauco Mattoso’s in particular, once this contemporary poet, known for his sonnetary inherited from Luis de Camões, Gregório de Matos and Manuel Barbosa Maria du Bocage, declares himself as the heir of the Portuguese lyric tradition. The studies in literary topic by Francisco Achcar and Antonio Candido, besides the reflections on the topic of poetic imitation, such as the ones by D.A.
