The historical cartography as a method of morphological study of the traditional landscape of Campanar
Abstract
We defend the idea of durability in time of population centres, elements and structures of the huerta, the fertile agricultural area around the city of Valencia, through rooted concepts, such as tradition and, especially, the unceasing daily routine of human beings. Starting from this perception, we consider the existence of permanent traces on the territory that allow us to establish hypotheses about the settlement and organization of the territory, from its origins. From this paradigm, we hope to establish, relying on the morphological study as a working tool, a plausible argument on the primitive traces of the organization of the urban landscape of Campanar. The analysis and discussion of the data obtained from the comparison of the different documentary sources, written, cartographic and verbal, offers insight in the evolution of this urban settlement. Specifically, in this article we discuss the results revealed from the cartographic analysis.
