This paper analyses the development conditions of commercial agriculture in the main irrigations districts of Mexico, as well as the development of agriculture under the influence of foreign capital investments. Some of the results these have produced are a change on the agrarian structure of the Mexican country–side, and the explosive growth of certain cities, all of them within the hinterland of irrigated areas or under the influence of agroindustrial development. Thus, in Mexico there is an economic inequality among and within regions; those differences are more striking in the Northwest part of the country.
