Critical Theory and Psychoanalysis in Leo Löwenthal

Abstract

This study aims to analyse psychoanalysis as a basic component of Leo Löwenthal’s critical theory. It focuses on the configuration of subjectivity within late capitalism. Bearing in mind Löwenthal's idea that the culture industry is psychoanalysis in reverse, it also explores the actuality of some problematic components of the sociability that the cultural industry promotes and reproduces. They deserve to be psychoanalytically addressed.
