Une guichetière nommée Polyeucte : un épisode de la vie d’une sainte « véritable » dans le Port-Royal de Sainte-Beuve
Abstract
Sainte-Beuve’s Port-Royal moves several times the remains of Port-Royal back and forth between Paris and Lausanne. These displacements are one of the conditions for this historiographical work. As far as Angélique Arnauld, who is regarded as a “saintevéritable”, is concerned, the displacement takes the form of a detour through a piece of odd (“étrange”, in the author’s words) literary critique. One of the most important days of her existence (la Journée du guichet) is confronted with Polyeucte in order to present this moment of holiness to people who are Calvinists and Swiss, but also French, thanks to literature (“Français en literature”, in Sainte-Beuve’s words).
