The present study is aimed to identify psycho-social factors underlying participative processes among Colombian women. Semi-structured and in-depth interviews were made to seventeen (17) women leaders, both young and adult, working in social organizations in the city of Bogotá and the department of Cundinamarca, in the communitarian, political, cultural and unionized sectors. The analysis followed a critical social psychology approach and a gender approach. The study revealed that the main motivations for these women to get involved in that type of work were related to a greater access to goods and services. Participation in several organizations and social networks made easier empowerment processes on the personal, close and collective relationships levels.
