The present article analyzes the episode The Raven from the The Simpsons series, inspired by the homonymous poetic text by Edgar Allan Poe written in 1845. This episode dialogues with a well known classic of the American literature, which, when transposed to animation, brings new meanings to Poe´s text and this intersemiotic translation is able to provoke discussion about such reinterpretation. It is worth investigating how signs of the source culture from the nineteenth century have been translated into those of the target culture from the twentieth century; or to seek traces of irony in this intertextual dialogue with allusion to myths, deities, and figures from classical antiquity.
