Knowledge regarding coronary artery disease among Ha'il City population, Saudi Arabia
Abstract
Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a significant complication in middle-aged individuals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), so the objective of this study is to assess the level of knowledge about the CAD risk factors, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention in Hail city population, KSA. Methodology: The study was done in Hail city, KSA, in the period from August 2020 to December 2020 by distributing an online survey; 1035 persons participated in this study without identifying specific age or gender. Results: Nearly 57.9% and 32.6% of the participants did not know about CAD and its risk factors, respectively, while 31.1% answered that high cholesterol level is the main risk factor for CAD. Almost 32.4% of the participants did not know the way of the prevention and regarding the diagnosis of CAD and 40.7% did not know the diagnosis tools. Nearly 21.4% and 21.3% of the participants stated cardiac catheterization and radiology investigations to be the best diagnosing modalities, respectively. Approximately 67.6% of the participants considered that cardiac catheterization is the best way to treat CAD. Conclusion: The level of knowledge about CAD in Hail city, KSA, was poor and they need to increase the level of awareness.
