Highlights - The COVID-19 pandemic sensitizes medical students to hygienic aspects of venipuncture. - The hygiene compliance of medical students is proportional to the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. - During the COIVD-19 pandemic, medical students performed worse in non-hygienic tasks.
