Abstract The quality of power generation from various energy sources is essential for industrial and household applications. To achieve the quality of power by minimizing the total harmonic distortion (THD) through multi‐level inverters (MLIs) is an attractive solution. MLIs have tremendous performance against %THD and electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues compared with the classical two‐level inverters. However, MLIs have more device count and intricacy of the circuitry for further reducing the THD, which increases the complexity and cost of the converter. In the paper, a new approach is suggested for reducing the THD through the proposed inverter with a comparatively lower quantity of power electronic components and less control complexity. The proposed inverter is tested in the simulation environment and on an experimental test using low power (150 W) prototype circuit.
