Electronic Information Resources in Social Transformations

Abstract

The article examines qualitatively new characteristic features acquired by the public infosphere with the spread of electronic information technologies. The growing volumes of information produced by society, the improvement of information flow management tools, the ever-deepening penetration of new information into the society structure, and the fact that more and more people gain access to it, have opened up new opportunities in the realization of the society productive forces. At the same time, electronic technologies came to libraries - traditional social centers for storage and use of information. On the one hand, libraries gave a tangible boost to all areas of librarianship related to users service directly in libraries and its improving. On the other hand, they made it possible to expand the number of users outside the library, with the help of electronic means of communication. Increasing demand for information beyond the traditional library reading, in the environment of business, politics, and power structures, in the process of activation of the entire social structures system within the framework of the civil society development, significantly develops and renews libraries functions. Activation of libraries in public life is also related to the improvement of information processes management.Thus, the introduction of electronic information technologies into the infosphere of society contributes to its intellectualization. The improvement of relevant library technologies contributes to the development of public memory, public self-awareness and plays a growing role in the humankind progress.
