The architectural works of the authors and couple Milenija and Darko Marušić

Abstract

This paper deals with the decades-long legacy of Darko and Milenija Marušić, a married couple who were both architects. Their lives' work is closely connected to the institution in which they both worked for many years; the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism of Serbia, in Belgrade. With their work in this institution, they primarily focused on the construction of residential buildings, although other types of buildings can also be found among their opus. This paper presents their most significant achievements, and through them shows the value of this married and authorial couple, whose work exhibits both Modernist and Postmodernist tendencies. What undeniably sets these authors apart is their accomplishment of innovative forms and functionalist solutions, all aimed at creating objects both tailored to human needs and in harmony with the natural environment. This research aims to introduce a wider audience to these elements and characteristics, and to raise awareness of the importance of these authors and their works.
